The initial setup and activation of a batch composting toilet, such as the Nature Loo Alectura, Nature Loo NL3, or Clivus Multrum Low Profile
Prepare the composting chamber for first use
To begin, add a 10 to 15cm layer of bulking agent to the bottom of your composting chamber. Ensure the bulking agent is spread evenly across the chamber floor. This initial layer provides aeration and drainage, crucial for the composting process. You can now begin using your toilet.
Add Nature Quick Microbes
After 2 to 4 days of use, it's time to introduce the beneficial microbes that kickstart the composting process. Mix half a packet of Nature Quick Microbes with warm (not hot) water according to the instructions on the packet. Pour this mixture into the chamber via the toilet pedestal, ensuring it is distributed evenly.
7 to 10 days after the first application of Nature Quick Microbes, add the remaining half packet, again mixed with warm water, to the chamber via the pedestal. This second dose ensures a robust and thriving colony of beneficial bacteria, fully activating your system for efficient composting
